What is Submetering?

Submetering is the practice of billing tenants for their individual utility consumption. In the past, property managers and building owners would take the total utility bill they receive, divide the cost up, and then evenly split it with all tenants in the building.

This practice was unfair for the vast majority of tenants, and was an antiquated method of billing. Submetering today focuses on measuring a tenant’s individual use, fairly charging based on actual use, instead of estimated numbers.

Here are some points about submetering:

Submetering Puts You in Control

UtilityBillCo allows you to see your bills, and allows you to make informed choices on utility consumption.

Submetering can Detect Issues in your Building near-instantly

A submetering system can detect leaks or bursts in your system, and alert your property or building manager almost instantly, saving the property money and reducing your level of risk in your home.

Submetering is Good for the Environment

Submetering allows tenants and property managers to reduce their utility waste, as well as conserve for future generations.
